Border Dispute Between India and Nepal
Recently, a border dispute arose between India and Nepal when Nepal claimed a disputed land across the Sharda River. On December 5, Nepalese police stopped Indian villagers from entering the area, which they claimed was part of Nepal, while the Indian villagers refuted this claim. Following this incident, tensions escalated between the two countries, but the situation normalized after the intervention of security forces.
Despite these tensions, the India-Nepal Friendship Festival is being held at a time when there is an increased need to strengthen cultural relations following the border dispute.
